Will your PON investment last more than 5 years?
Date: 12/7/22 / 11am ET
The age of FTTH is here and rural markets are an opportunity for MSOs to fine tune a burgeoning business model that will in time influence its overall customer footprint. In this PON journey there are important questions unique to cable. First, will the lifetime of remote OLT platforms match what we’ve come to expect of HFC outside plant products. Second, if transitions are shorter how does that square with expected operational lifecycle cost, being that rural greenfield deployments will be aided by centralized and local governments for initial deployments, but upgrades will be the responsibility of the operator. And lastly what other inherent benefits come with flexible PON deployment models, such as ease of service convergence.
In this webinar, Ciena presents a method to have long-lasting remote OLT platforms that can span technology cycles and last decades as we’ve come to expect from outside plant solutions. Specifically, we will share Ciena’s perspective regarding how long 10G PON technologies will last, what happens next, and when do we need to transition from 10G to 100G backhaul links. Most importantly we describe the financial penalty when deploying rural PON networks with legacy solutions versus a highly modular OLT approach.
The Cable Industry Is Bringing Telehealth Services To Life!
Date: 12/09/21 / 2:00 PM ET
Aging-in-place (AIP) and Telehealth are two wellness-related application areas that combine the need for connection to the Telecommunication technologies with reliable and flexible in-home networking along with the wellness infrastructure. This is a highly valuable inter-industry opportunity for MSOs because they already provide the broadband access and many relevant in-home services. In this webinar, we will provide live and recorded demonstrations of expanded AIP and Telehealth services that can be offered to cable customers through a combination of strategic partnerships and connected Internet-of-things (IoT) devices while being packaged and branded by cable service providers. The cable industry is well-positioned to offer such services due to their boots-on-the-ground workforce, 24-by-7 customer service, and a highly integrated customer management relationship. The demand for AIP and Telehealth is growing exponentially. Emerging solutions from MSOs can significantly lower the cost of care, improve service reliability and communication for the stakeholders. Join us for a webinar to listen to our experts along with live demonstrations of the unique services MSOs can offer and how cable can be a preferred partner in these emerging markets.

The Enterprise & A-Attestation: How is this going to work?
Enterprise customers are focused on supporting their customers and growing their revenue. They are not focused on assuring that calls from their locations are treated as trustworthy by the people they call.
Service Providers, however, are focused on this. They want to ensure that every call on their network is trustworthy. To help with that goal, they want to provide the receiving party with the most accurate indication possible that they can have confidence in the accuracy and security of the caller ID.
In the FCC’s mandated STIR/SHAKEN framework, the network’s level of confidence in any given call’s presented caller ID is expressed as an “Attestation Level”. Since Service Providers are responsible for setting the per call Attestation Level, they can therefore play a critical role in assisting their Enterprise customers to achieve the gold standard of an “A” Attestation.
This webinar will focus on the industry’s approach to assisting Enterprise customers in successfully achieving A-Attestations per call and will review the lessons learned in early trials of this approach.

- “Know your Customer” Expectations
- NANC Best Practice Guidelines
- TN “Right to Use” Expectations

SCTE•ISBE Technology Webinar Series: Fiber 101 series – the new dimension of coherent optics - Sponsored by EXFO
Presented Jan 27, 2021
We kicked off this webinar series with Corning, looking at the Basics of Fiber and ways to improve network capacity with DWDM technologies. In this third installment, EXFO partners with CableLabs to explore a new dimension of spectral efficiency: coherent optics.
The advent of IoT, remote applications and cloud gaming are driving a larger demand in data, and more importantly driving stringent requirements for high-fidelity communication.
In addition to the ongoing initiatives being carried out by cable operators in distributing plants further out, massive data aggregation will require robust and efficient spectral usage. With higher signal-to-noise ratios (OSNR), coherent optics are providing cleaner, more robust signals with less errors.
Key takeaways:
• Learn the fundamentals of coherent optics communication
• Understand which problems coherent optics help solve
• All about full duplex coherent optics
• Challenges in testing coherent optics
• Best practices in testing coherent communication systems

Accelerate New MSO Revenue by Simplifying Network Signaling
Presented Tues, Nov. 17, 2020 by:
Description:
For far too long, proprietary technology silos have gotten in the way of cable operators, making it difficult, if not impossible, for them to deploy new services quickly or even modify their existing services quickly. This has been especially true for larger MSOs that have made multiple acquisitions because of the challenge of integrating many different and sometimes incompatible operations and billing systems. But all is not lost. A new, more flexible network signaling and routing solution, known as a centralized routing engine (CRE), can help cable operators tame the silo monster and roll out new services more quickly and easily. In this webinar, we will delve into the thorny silo issue, examine the problems they cause and explore how CREs can help MSOs cut through these silos and get to market more quickly with new services.

The Role of Virtualization in the Broadband HFC Network Evolution
Presented Wed, Sept. 16, 2020
Presented by:
Description:
Service Providers need to evolve their networks to support the ever-growing demand for broadband bandwidth and video services. This requires a flexible and adaptable network deployment solution. Traditional, DAA and virtualization architectures enable service providers to optimally evolve their broadband networks as needed. Using techniques such as Bandwidth reclamation, network channel optimization, and extending spectrum are all levers a network operator can use to meet the growing need for network capacity. Our network experts will discuss these comprehensive approaches and how it relates to network virtualization of the control plane, the video plane and the data plane. Operators do not need to embark on a forklift upgrade, but rather benefit from a gradual migration to virtualization.

Managing Bandwidth Surge: How to Cope with the Increase and then Long-term Growth
Presented Thu, Jun 4, 2020
Presented by CommScope
Description:
The recent events across the globe has altered how we do business, with entire countries forcing their population to live and work from home. We saw a year’s worth of bandwidth growth in a 2 week interval. How did our broadband infrastructure cope? We’ll take a look at what happened to our broadband networks around the globe. Network capacity planning is key to having sufficient headroom to withstand an unexpected jolt. We’ll review what happens when corners are cut. For operators with severely congested networks, we’ll take a look at some short-term fixes to give them a little breathing room for now. Finally, where is this going over the long run? We’ll discuss some bandwidth projections and some mid to long term migration strategies that operators should consider deploying before the next bandwidth surge hits.
