Executive Summary
The Alarms MIB defines the reporting of alarms that result from MIB parameters meeting or exceeding the alarm conditions previously configured. This MIB describes both the table of recent alarms, and the SNMP trap generated when alarms occur.
Scope
The Alarms MIB contains information that must be supported by all HMS network elements, including but not limited to, transponders, line monitors, amplifiers, fiber nodes and power supplies. Alarms are not necessarily limited to HMS MIB objects.

Benefits
The Alarms MIB defines a simple and consistent model for reporting alarm conditions for basic parameters in an SNMP status monitoring environment. This model is flexible enough to support a wide range of products and use cases, yet sufficiently light-weight to be implemented on low-cost, low-power transponders.
Intended Audience
This document is intended for HMS network operators, using and/or defining SNMP-based network management systems, as well as for product vendors, to correctly implement the HMS standards that the network operators expect.
