Will your PON investment last more than 5 years?

The age of FTTH is here and rural markets are an opportunity for MSOs to fine tune a burgeoning business model that will in time influence its overall customer footprint. In this PON journey there are important questions unique to cable. First, will the lifetime of remote OLT platforms match what we’ve come to expect of HFC outside plant products. Second, if transitions are shorter how does that square with expected operational lifecycle cost, being that rural greenfield deployments will be aided by centralized and local governments for initial deployments, but upgrades will be the responsibility of the operator. And lastly what other inherent benefits come with flexible PON deployment models, such as ease of service convergence.

In this webinar, Ciena presents a method to have long-lasting remote OLT platforms that can span technology cycles and last decades as we’ve come to expect from outside plant solutions. Specifically, we will share Ciena’s perspective regarding how long 10G PON technologies will last, what happens next, and when do we need to transition from 10G to 100G backhaul links. The Enterprise & A-Attestation: How is this going to work?

Enterprise customers are focused on supporting their customers and growing their revenue. They are not focused on assuring that calls from their locations are treated as trustworthy by the people they call.

Service Providers, however, are focused on this. They want to ensure that every call on their network is trustworthy. To help with that goal, they want to provide the receiving party with the most accurate indication possible that they can have confidence in the accuracy and security of the caller ID.

In the FCC’s mandated STIR/SHAKEN framework, the network’s level of confidence in any given call’s presented caller ID is expressed as an “Attestation Level”. Since Service Providers are responsible for setting the per call Attestation Level, they can therefore play a critical role in assisting their Enterprise customers to achieve the gold standard of an “A” Attestation.

This webinar will focus on the industry’s approach to assisting Enterprise customers in successfully achieving A-Attestations per call and will review the lessons learned in early trials of this approach.

CBRS and Private Wireless Networks

Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) offers a huge opportunity for enterprise to leverage 3.5GHz spectrum and build private wireless networks. The new service will enable the allocation of spectrum to CBSDs (Citizens Broadband Service Devices - small cells) while at the same time protecting other higher priority incumbents, such as satellite ground stations and military radar, from interference. Amdocs in one of the few Spectrum Access System (SAS) providers certified by the FCC. Amdocs offers complete end-to-end solution including SAS, EPC and eSIM in addition to global network design and deployment expertise and managed services. Packet Core is a key part of this solution. We are very pleased to have Facebook discuss Magma Mobile Packet Core software platform in this webinar. Magma is an open-source software platform that enables bringing more people online by enabling network operators with open, flexible and extensible network solutions. This is a highly innovative software platform that allows network operators to easily extend mobile network coverage and add capacity for faster Internet to many unconnected and under-connected parts of the world. It comprises a mobile packet core, in addition to network automation and management tools.
