The SCTE Broadband Fiber Transport Specialist (BFTS) curriculum covers many aspects of optical signal distribution in the access and transport network architectures. A learner will gain an in-depth understanding of fiber optic light theory, optical transport technologies, and optical cables. This knowledge will be leveraged in learning about the basic principles of designing, constructing, maintaining, and troubleshooting these networks. Participants will also learn about the tools, test equipment, and procedures used when working on optical networks.

Certification
Upon completion, learners will be prepared to earn the nationally recognized SCTE Broadband Fiber Transport Specialist (BFTS) certification. The certification is designed for individuals interested in working in the cable telecommunications industry as a cable provider, contractor, or vendor.
NOTE: The BFTS certification replaces the BTS certification.
Upon Successful Completion
- SCTE curriculum completion certificate
- A total of 5 recertification units (RUs) toward SCTE certification renewal with completion of all curriculum courses
Requirements for Successful Curriculum Completion
- Pass all course final exams with a score of 70% or greater.
Format
Self-paced interactive Online Course: Learners start the SCTE VirtuLearn® course at any time, study at their own pace, and have access to dynamic online content after they register. On average, learners will spend approximately 1 to 2 hours per week over 12 weeks completing course activities. SCTE provides access to the course for 1 year from the date of purchase.
System Requirements: A high-speed Internet (HSI) connection, Internet browser with HTML5 support. For tablet or smartphone access, HTML5 may be used for online eBook content.
Instructor-Led Onsite or Virtual Boot Camp Course: the SCTE VirtuLearn course may be delivered as an onsite or virtual boot camp. Course access information will be emailed when the course is purchased.
